I'm a writer and editor based in northwest Arkansas. I've covered public affairs, health and other beats for the past decade in Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas, and I headed north in 2018 to oversee a pair of suburban community newspapers in the Twin Cities before returning south in 2020. I recently completed my master's in geography with a focus on climate, open spaces and development policy.

This online portfolio has sections for my reporting and editing backgrounds. Please take a look at either with the links below or under the drop-down menu.

I've had several goals throughout this career; the first is clarity. That means cutting through jargon and spin, using direct and clear language, learning enough about a topic to speak authoritatively and including the voices of the people directly affected. It means showing what the news actually means.

My second goal is ambitious storytelling. Worthwhile and important stories, even if they aren't thousands of words long, take work and focus. I put in the effort to find and tell those stories, many of which you can find here.

I do all of this with the speed and dependability required by daily newsrooms. My final goal is to keep getting better. I'm available for freelance and hire; please reach out if interested with the contact information in my resume below.
